What is Restoril Temazepam 30 mg?

Restoril (temazepam) is a benzodiazepine (ben-zoe-dye-AZE-eh-peen). Temazepam affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with sleep problems (insomnia).

Restoril is used to treat insomnia symptoms such as trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

Restoril works by slowing down the central nervous system (brain) and causing drowsiness, which helps patients fall asleep.

Do not use Restoril if you are pregnant. Temazepam can cause birth defects or life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.

Restoril Temazepam 30 mg can be common and should only be used by the person who prescribed it. This medication should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug or substance abuse. Keep the medication in a safe place where others cannot access it. Abuse of addictive drugs can lead to addiction, overdose, or death.

Restoril Temazepam 30 mg can cause a serious allergic reaction. Stop taking temazepam and get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Take this medication only when you are getting ready for several hours of sleep. You may fall asleep very quickly after taking this medication.

Some people using this drug have engaged in activities such as driving, eating, or making phone calls and later not remember the activity. If this happens to you, stop taking Restoril and talk to your doctor about another treatment for your sleep disorder.

Before taking this medication
You should not use Restoril if you are allergic to temazepam or other benzodiazepines (alprazolam, Xanax, Valium, or others).

To make sure Restoril Temazepam 30 mg is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other respiratory disease
kidney or liver disease
a history of depression or suicidal thoughts or behavior
a history of drug or alcohol addiction, or
if you are using a narcotic (opioid) medicine.
Do not use Restoril if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medicine can cause birth defects. Your baby may also become dependent on the drug. This can cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the baby after birth. Babies born with addictive drugs may need medical treatment for several weeks. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while you are taking Restoril.

Restoril Temazepam 30 mg may pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine.

The sedative effects of temazepam may last longer in older adults. Accidental falls are common in older patients taking benzodiazepines. Be careful to avoid falls or accidental injury while taking Restoril.

Restoril Temazepam 30 mg is not approved for use by anyone under 18 years of age.

How should I take Restoril?

Take Restoril exactly as prescribed for you. Follow all instructions on your prescription label. Never use Restoril in larger amounts or for longer than prescribed. Tell your doctor if the medication also seems to stop treating your symptoms.
